Olivia Ferry is Zonta International President

   

Olivia Ferry is a member of the Zonta Club of Makati & Environs in the Philippines, and became International President during the Zonta International Convention in Melbourne, Australia in June, 2006.   Her service projects for her biennium, 2006-2008, were approved by the delegates in Melbourne.  The  projects are:



 

Education and Leadership for Girls and Young Women in Bolivia with CARE International

 
    Project Objective
 
   

The goal of this project is to empower working girls and young women (aged 13-25) living in Pasankeri and Llojeta. The primary goal is to strengthen the educational learning process for working girls and women, in order to provide them with literacy and numeracy skills and thus improve their chances of securing better jobs. Second, the project includes a special focus on women's health education, since the formal school curriculum doe not adequately address this sensitive topic. Finally, through vocational training, the project will help women develop marketable technical skills that will give them opportunities to increase their income-earning potential.

Enhance educational and literacy skills for working girls and young women who are outside the formal education system.

 
   

Improve teaching through innovative training approaches.
 

 
   

Incorporate a basic rights and citizenship component into the alternative education curricula.
 

 
   

Strengthen educational opportunities through vocational courses.
 

 
   

Improve students' knowledge of women's health issues.
 

Support for Revival of Community-Based Self-Help Initiatives in Sri Lanka with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

 
 

Project Goal
 
   

The goal of the project is to improve the livelihood of the communities in the East Region severely affected by the Tsunami and suffering from the long-standing conflict through the improved entrepreneurial and technical skills of women and womens' groups engaged in agro- based production activities.
 

 

Project Objectives
 

   

Improve agro-based production skills by organizing workshops and training on the efficient use of simple tools, equipment and small-scale machinery including post harvest and processing equipment.
 

   

Develop and promote micro-, small- and medium-scale agro-based businesses  for/among the women and women's groups in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts.
 

   

Facilitate the interaction between the women and women's groups and appropriate technical and business support providers in order to increase their  productivity and efficiency for income generation.
 

   

Increase the marketability of women's products through linking rural and urban markets.
 

Mata Matsu Dubara Women on the Move Support for AIDS Affected Women and Children in Niger, Phase II with CARE International

 
  Project Goal
 
   

The goal of Phase II is to reduce the risk of AIDS and its physical, social and economic consequences for at least 5,100 women and their dependent children in the Bouza district by 2008 through three primary strategies:
                   

   

Empower AIDS-affected women and their children, economically and socially.
 

   

Build the capacity of local organizations to ensure the project's sustainability.
 

   

Work with community leaders to "break the wall of silence" about HIV-AIDS, and reduce the stigmatization of women living with, or affected by, HIV- AIDS.
 

 

Project Objectives
 

     

To improve the economic security of approximately 5,100 widows and women (3,600 Phase I; 1,500 Phase II) affected by HIV/AIDS.
 

   

      To improve the health of approximately 5,100 women infected or affected and their dependent children, and up to 3,600 orphaned or otherwise vulnerable children, in partnership with other organizations
 

   

To foster the development of positive attitudes and behavioral changes related to STI/HIV/AIDS in all Phase I and Phase II villages
 

Afghan Institute of Learing (AIL) Developing Community-Based Efforts to Educate Afghan Women and Girls

 
  Project Goal
 
   

The goal of the project are to:

   

Improve access to quality education to Afghan women and girls in rural or poor urban settings by improving the programs offered by community-based educational organizations
 

   

Improve the health of women and children in rural or poor urban settings through health education
 

 

Project Objectives
 

   

Each year AIL will support classes for 650 women and girls in rural or urban poor Women's Learning Centers or community based organizations.  These organizations will be located in Kabul or Herat provinces, Afghanistan.  AIL will provide training and partial financial support for the organizations which will reach women and girls with quality educational opportunities, including literacy, English and skills training.  AIL will also provide educational materials and regular monitoring and supervision.
 

   

      Each year AIL will provide on-site training for teachers and managers for each Women's Learning Center and community based organization.  AIL will also provide additional teacher and human rights and leadership training to 100 women.  The training will help with to improve reporting, administration, management and program quality.  AIL teacher training staff will provide supervision and advice on the programs of these organizations.
 

   

Each year AIL will provide health training to 24,000 women and children in the areas of Women's Learning Center and community based organizations  through AIL's health clinics.

Provide mission-focused service, locally and globally, in order to improve women's legal rights, health, education, and economic status, and to prevent violence against women.
 

   

Combine service with advocacy to enhance the effects of our work.

Be effective advocates and opinion leaders on women's issues.
 

   

Produce position papers defining where we stand on at least two priority issues.
 

   

Cooperate and collaborate with like-minded organizations to achieve our mission.
 

  Credibility, Identity and Visibility
 
   

Improve our credibility through evidence-based reporting on the outcomes of our service and advocacy programs.
 

   

Strengthen our identity and increase our visibility through effective marketing and brand management, and on-going external communications and public relations efforts.
 

     

Commemorate Zonta Rose Day/International Women's Day (8 March) through local activities that provide visibility for Zonta and its mission.
 

  Membership
 
   

Grow our membership by 1,000 members net of resignation through effective recruitment, retention, revitalization and new club formation strategies.
 

   

Enhance the value we deliver to our members through participation, communication, continuing education, networking and bottom-up initiatives.
 

  Financial
 
   

Expand the levels of financial support to the Zonta International Foundation through increased personal and club contributions and planned gift giving and donor development
 

   

Every Zonta club to contribute annually to the Zonta International Foundation one-third (33%) of all service funds collected.
 

   

Every Zontian to make an individual annual gift to the Foundation.
 

   

Every Zontian to investigate and consider a planned gift to the Foundation.
 

   

Formulate strategies and action plans for successful donor development.
 

   

Study ways of diversifying the Zonta International income stream to support and sustain operations.
 

   

Ensure appropriate fiduciary practices are in place and financial resources are spent prudently.
