Education Awards

Zonta Club of Lafayette supports several local educational awards for girls and women each year. Several local winners can compete at the District and International level.

The 2026 Rose Education Award winners were honored at the May meeting. Rose Awardees are women who single mothers pursuing an education. The 2026 Mary Dichmann English award winner from UL Lafayette is Brittany Hohensee. The award this year was sponsored by Zonta Lafayette Club member, Dr. Mary Neiheisel in honor of her mother, Janie Ramsey Brown. Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life. (local, district, and international) Award descriptions and requirements.​
Zonta Women in Business Leadership Award

Women, aged 18-35 at the time of application, who demonstrate evidence of the following, are eligible to apply.

  • Exceptional leadership in a business-related field of study or industry.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Ethical conduct.

  • Significant contributions to addressing global or local issues affecting women and girls or climate justice.

Zonta Women in STEM Award - Women’s progress in the last century has dramatically increased the opportunities available to women. Yet, women’s participation in leadership positions in science, technology, engineering, and math continues to lag behind. The goal of Zonta International Women in STEM Scholarship is to encourage women to pursue a higher education degree in science, technology, engineering or math while also encouraging leadership achievements in science, technology, engineering, and/or math and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women. (local, district, and international)
ROSE Award
The Rose Award is awarded to a non-traditional student, female head of household, and primary wage earner of the family.  Applicants should be individuals pursuing post high school training or certification programs not necessarily requiring a baccalaureate degree.  The recipient must use the scholarship to attend an educational institution that is accredited and normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried on.  This award can fund a certification program such as law enforcement or fire training education at a technical/trade school or a community college. (local and district) Lafayette winner will be sent to District for competition.

Mary Dichmann English Award (local)
The Mary Dichmann award is provided to an English undergraduate or graduate at the University of Louisiana of Lafayette. Chosen by a committee of College of Liberal Arts - English professors. Spring
