Education Awards

Zonta Club of Lafayette supports several local educational awards for girls and women each year. Several local winners can compete at the District and International level.

The 2025 Young Woman in Leadership Award recipient is Miss Lillian Giroir. Lillian is a graduate of Lafayette High School. She plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in elementary education to become a 2nd grade teacher. After teaching, she plans to become an educational lawyer to ensure every child received the best possible education.

Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes, and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life. (local, district, and international)
Woman in Business Leadership Award - The Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or Master’s degrees in business management.  The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients. Zonta District 10 awards its recipient $1000.  Each district/region will nominate a district/region applicant to submit to Zonta International. The District winner competes at the International level for one of 10 US$10,000 awards. The Women in Business Leadership awards are awarded annually. (local, district, and international)
Women in STEM Award - Women’s progress in the last century has dramatically increased the opportunities available to women. Yet, women’s participation in leadership positions in science, technology, engineering, and math continues to lag behind. The goal of Zonta International Women in STEM Scholarship is to encourage women to pursue a higher education degree in science, technology, engineering or math while also encouraging leadership achievements in science, technology, engineering, and/or math and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women. (local, district, and international)
ROSE Award
The Rose Award is awarded to a non-traditional student, female head of household, and primary wage earner of the family.  Applicants should be individuals pursuing post high school training or certification programs not necessarily requiring a baccalaureate degree.  The recipient must use the scholarship to attend an educational institution that is accredited and normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried on.  This award can fund a certification program such as law enforcement or fire training education at a technical/trade school or a community college. (local and district)

Mary Dichmann English Award (local)
The Mary Dichmann award is provided to an English undergraduate or graduate at the University of Louisiana of Lafayette. Chosen by a committee of College of Liberal Arts - English professors.
